Matcha Bowl Japan Oribe Green Tenmoku
Oribe ceramics are named after one of Japan's most famous tea masters, Furuta Oribe. The shape of this chawan is inspired by the classic Tenmoku or Jian bowl, which has been used in Japan and China for over a millennium.
The clay body is made of light-coloured clay and is coated with an intense green glaze, although this glaze is slightly different for each piece.
The clay itself comes from the Seto region and is very typical of the local ceramic tradition. Seto is famous for the variety of styles that have emerged in connection with the Japanese tea ceremony, including the green Oribe style.
Mr Katô, who makes each bowl by hand, is a nationally renowned master of his craft. Each bowl comes in a Japanese paper box with a traditional motif on the lid.
Care instructions: Even though the bowl is glazed, it should not be cleaned in the dishwasher. Instead, use warm water and a soft sponge if necessary.
