Wonderful spring tea from the highest tea garden in India

This wonderful Edmon's speciality comes from the Korakundah tea garden in the South Indian Nilgiris. Thanks to the special altitude and the exceptionally fertile soil, this region always produces marvellous qualities of tea.

The Nilgiris are a group of mountains in the province of Tamil Nadu, right on the border with Kerala. The altitude is astonishingly high and, in combination with the heavy rainfall and the fertile soil, is the reason for the ideal conditions for tea cultivation. In South India, tea can be harvested all year round, that's how fertile it is here!

Together with its sister garden Chamraj, Korakundah is one of the pioneers in organic cultivation in South India. There are also several other certifications, such as Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance. All employees live in the extensive tea garden, which, in addition to a primary school, also has a kindergarten, a hospital and - in Chamraj - a secondary school to which the local population (who do not work in the tea garden) also has access. At 8,000 feet (2438 metres), Korakundah is the highest tea garden in India and the second highest in the world!

Which tea cultivars were used for the tea?

In Korakundah, there are still quite large stocks of Chinese plants that were planted at the end of the 19th century. These plants bear the name "Creeper China" due to their small and dense appearance.

What makes this tea so special?

The tea is processed like a first flush from the northern regions. Only leaves from the China bush are picked and processed.

Tea-Taster preparation recommendation for this tea
